How often should I get my laser treatments?

Summary

Hair growth cycles require multiple laser sessions to target hairs in their active stage, typically every 6-8 weeks, except for facial hair which may require sessions every 4-5 weeks for conditions like PCOS. Everly Beauty offers personalized consultations for tailored treatment plans.

Hair growth cycles

The hair grows in cycles across the entire body, which is the main reason you need multiple sessions in general versus just one - as convenient as that would be! Every single hair may be at a different stage in the hair growth cycle at any one time, making targeting and removing all of them equally to be pretty tough!

Why multiple sessions are needed?

Multiple sessions allow the laser to specifically treat the hair at the anagen stage, also known as the active and growing stage. During this hair growth phase, the root of the hair is the strongest, largest and actually attached to the root. The laser treatment works to disrupt future growth properly, as a result. The melanin in the hair is the richest (the pigment of the hair is the darkest) during this hair growth stage, which allows for optimal transfer of heat energy from the laser to the hair follicle.

Coming in every 6-8 weeks generally ensures that the hair has gone through the various stages of the hair growth cycle before returning to the ideal anagen/active growth stage. The only exceptions to this tend to be for laser hair removal on the face as the hair growth cycles more rapidly there, especially if you have endocrine/hormonal issues like PCOS (polycystic ovarian system). In that case, 4-5 weeks is okay!
